Mentor Education for Coaches with a foreign background

This mentor education is especially targeted at coaches with a foreign background coaching children and youth sport participants and will be executed in English. The mentor education provides coaches with skills to help peer-coaches learn, develop and nurture their coaching competencies. It is especially targeted at foreign coaches to support other foreign coaches to develop their skills in coaching, to increase the quality of coaching in children and youth sport in Finland. Mentors trained by the Finnish Coaches Association can organize individual and group mentoring activities in clubs, sport organizations and sport operations environments.

After completing the training, the participants can implement individual or group mentoring processes in clubs, sports or their areas of operation, as a mentor trained by the Finnish Coaches Association.

Mentoring refers to a confidential interaction between a mentor and a mentee (actor). During the mentoring process different techniques such as active listening, feedback, questioning, observation, action planning, reflection and self-reflection, and the GROW model are applied, focusing on the needs of the individual. The mentor training develops the mentors’ interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, and provides insights and tools to help other coaches learn, develop, understand and improve in coaching and in their personal life.

The mentor education provides plenty of new ideas to support coaches’ learning, comprehension and development in coaching, and supports the mentors’ competence development.

The training is free-of-charge.
